The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the United Kingdom or the UK) is a constitutional monarchy comprising much of the British Isles.


The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a union made up of the following regions, home nations and territories:

Great Britain

The largest home nation, in terms both of size and, by far, population.
The second largest home nation and occupies the northern third of Great Britain. The four archipelagos of Orkney, Shetland, and the Inner and Outer Hebrides are also part of Scotland.
Located within the largely mountainous western portion of Great Britain.




Northern Ireland
Located in the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland, consisting of six of the nine counties of the ancient Irish province of Ulster.


Crown Dependencies


Channel Islands (Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney, Sark)
Technically not part of the UK, the Channel Islands consist of a number of small islands off the coast of France.
Isle of Man
Technically not part of the UK, the Isle of Man is a small island in the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland.


Overseas Territories


Located within the Caribbean.
It is the UK’s oldest overseas colony. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean, closer to North America than Europe.
British Antarctic Territory
Located in Antarctica, it is the UK’s largest overseas territory.
British Indian Ocean Territory
Located in the Indian Ocean, it is limited to Military personal.
British Virgin Islands
Located in the Caribbean as part of the Virgin Islands, it is the closest British territory to the United States, due to its proximity to the US Virgin Islands.
Cayman Islands
Located in the western Caribbean.
Falkland Islands
Disputed territory located in the South Atlantic Ocean, next to Argentina.
Located in Southern Europe, and is bordered by Spain to the north.
Located in the Caribbean part of the Lesser Antilles.
Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.
A Group of spread out islands, Located in the Atlantic Ocean.
South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
Located in the South Atlantic.
Akrotiri and Dhekelia
Located in the Mediterranean both areas border Cyprus.
Turks and Caicos Islands
Located in the Caribbean part of the Lesser Antilles.
