LASTMINUTE. CRUISE. BREAKS!

Champagne has been used to mark many new beginnings – launching ships, toasting marriages and celebrating great achievements – so it seems only right that our first excursion on this cruise through the landscapes of northern France takes us on the famous Champagne route. Our journey aboard MS Raymonde continues to take in culinary delights – sailing into the region known for its splendid brie cheeses, to taste the most famous of all, Brie de Meaux; and historical highlights – visiting the town of Château Thierry and the resplendent city of Paris, for the ultimate conclusion to our cruise….

Day 1 London – Paris

VIP Outbound5Titan’s VIP door-to-door travel service collects you from home, for your journey to London St Pancras Station and a scheduled Eurostar service to Paris. On arrival, our coach will transfer us to the port in Epernay to embark MS Raymonde (4T), with time to settle in before a welcome cocktail party and dinner.

Day 2 Epernay – Dormans

Today we have an excursion to explore the famous Champagne route, discovering the picturesque village of Hautvillers. Pierre Pérignon, a Benedictine monk, managed the cellars within the Abbey of Hautvillers for 47 years. Although he is sometimes named the father of Champagne, the wine had already existed for many years before he had the unsuccessful task to prevent the bubbles from being created during fermentation, an effect of undesirable conditions. He then focused on ways to contain the unstable wine to avoid the issue of exploding bottles. We visit a major Champagne house and enjoy a tasting. We return to the ship and sail to Dormans, arriving early this evening and docking overnight.

Day 3 Dormans – Château Thierry

We take a coach to Reims for a guided tour of its meticulously restored historic centre and astounding cathedral. This monumental Gothic cathedral is where 25 kings were coroneted and this huge sanctuary truly befits such an occasion. The interior is decorated with resplendent stained-glass windows, a beautiful organ and a statue of Joan of Arc, who stood by the side of Charles VII on his coronation in 1429. Reims is also the location where the end of World War II was cemented, when the surrender was signed by General Alfred Jodl on behalf of Nazi Germany, on 7 May 1945. Our afternoon is spent sailing through the beautiful landscapes of the Marne Canal to Château Thierry, where we dock overnight.

Day 4 Château Thierry – Saint-Jean-les-Deux-Jumeaux

Today we discover the medieval town of Château Thierry, starting with a short falconry show, then passing the castle walls that outline the remains of this regal fort, we see the Hotel Dieu where Jean de la Fontaine, the 17th century writer, once lived. This afternoon we sail through the heart of the Seine-et-Marne countryside and its Champagne vines, passing Drachy and Champigny-sur-Marne, to arrive in Saint-Jean-les-Deux-Jumeaux this evening.

Day 5 Saint-Jean-les-Deux-Jumeaux – Meaux – Lagny-sur-Marne (overnight)

Our cruise continues this morning to Meaux where, after lunch, we take time to explore this charming town. We see Meaux Cathedral, a grand Gothic church despite remaining unfinished after 800 years, and, passing the Gallo-Roman ramparts and the magnificent Bossuet Garden, believed to be an early work of Le Nôtre, we reach the former Bishop’s Palace. On our walk, we learn the story of the most famous cheese of the region: the Brie de Meaux, hailed as ‘Le Roi des Fromages’ (‘the King of Cheeses’), and a tasting of this flavoursome cheese will complete the tour. We meet the ship in Lagny-sur-Marne, where we dock overnight.

Day 6 Lagny-sur-Marne – Paris

This morning we make the final voyage to Paris, for an afternoon tour through the capital’s major sites. By coach and by foot, ambling along the city’s pretty boulevards, we take in prominent landmarks such as the huge Place de la Madeleine, the prestigious Place Vendôme and the exemplary Opera de Paris. We also see one of the world’s largest and most distinguished museums – the Louvre, and the incredible Royal Palace, known as the Palais Cardinal before it was bequeathed to King Louis XIII. Back on board, we mark our last night with a gala evening.

Day 7 Paris – London

VIP InboundAfter breakfast this morning, we disembark and transfer by coach to Paris for a return Eurostar service to London St Pancras. On arrival you will be met and guided to your Titan vehicle, for the journey home.
